This was our first visit to Sicily and we were not disappointed. Francesca met us at Scicli railway station and took us on a tour of the town before going to the house itself, which helped us get our bearings and provide us with a lot of information on the town. The house was clean and welcoming – a tray of delicious little cakes was provided by Francesca. The house is in a very quiet part of Scicli, but within walking distance of the town centre and all its amenities; the roof terrace in particular is wonderful. We decided against hiring a car for the week and relied on public transport, which worked well although the timings are not always convenient. We visited Sampieri (beautiful beach; interesting abandoned brickworks), Ragusa (not our best day – rained heavily!) and Noto (very attractive, in particular the Duomo, but busy), as well as spending many hours exploring the narrow streets of Scicli. Enjoyed some wonderful food and wine – we can strongly recommend “La Grotto” (for dinner) and the gelateria next to “Amici Miei”. We also found the local Carrefour very good, in particular for bread. All in all, a wonderful week in a fascinating part of Sicily.
